Our Story
Our Story
We are Marcus and Carolyn.
Creekside Villa Restaurant & Rooms is our story brought to life.
We met in Bequia, an island in the Caribbean. Marcus was raised there, by Swedish parents, who owned and operated numerous restaurants and hotels throughout his childhood. Carolyn holidayed there regularly from Canada with her family. In fact, she had visited over ten times before we met, fell in love, and started to build a life together.
Our romance continued as we moved around the globe, living for periods in Bequia, Stockholm, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and the Okanagan, all while honing our skills in the hospitality and restaurant industries. When we became pregnant with our first child, we decided to put down roots in Canmore. Our love of the outdoors drew us here, while the close proximity to grandparents who also live in town and a sense of connection with this great community made us stay.
In 2014, we bought Creekside Villa Restaurant & Rooms. Since then, we’ve put our hearts and souls into renovating it into our dream boutique hotel. (And we had a second baby in that time too!) To us, it’s a perfect mix of the Canadian wilderness with Swedish sophistication and Caribbean flare. It is your classic B&B (bed and breakfast) transformed to R&R (rest and relaxation–and more!) It is completely “us.”
In 2017, we finished renovations of the hotel, including the installation of custom, handcrafted furniture in every guest room. It is unlike anything the Bow Valley has ever seen. In the middle of May, we are excited to open a new Cafe & Bistro, One Love, in the hotel’s main level. Marcus will take over the kitchen as head chef of One Love, and Carolyn will continue to manage the hotel.
We are lucky to have a great team of friends and family supporting us, along with professional staff who share our vision to create a home-away-from-home for our guests.
As Creekside Villa and One Love mark an exciting chapter in our own story, we look forward to welcoming our guests to become part of it too.
